Smith Bits STATS
STATS include rigs that are actively drilling wellbore and using considerable amounts of oilfield products and services. The count includes traditional rotary design rigs, workover rigs, truck mounted rigs, and coiled tubing rigs if they are rigging up, drilling, fishing, or rigging down. These rigs are included in the count until they reach total depth. Rigs specifically not included are cable tool rigs and those involved in non-drilling activities.

About Smith Bits STATS

The information is compiled and entered into a proprietary database by Schlumberger field personnel. The field personnel verify the current rig activity, whether it is drilling, fishing, rigging up, rigging down, or performing some other activity that would classify the rig as active.

Please use the Download Rig Count History link at the bottom of the page for previous weeks. This data will be released quarterly.

STATS Releases

The data is generally published every Friday between 9 and 10 am CST. Exceptions are Fridays in which the company is recognizing a US holiday. In these cases, the information is published the day or days before the company is closed for the holiday. In this case, the date will still be recorded as the Friday date for consistency.
